Rajasthan in January

We will be attending a wedding in Delhi January 2015, the dates that have been set aside for celebrations are 14th, 17th & 18th.

We would also like to do a tour of Rajasthan and have around 9 nights and I was considering using India by Car & Driver. I thought we could do Taj Mahal by ourselves and maybe catch a train there on 15th & 16th in between celebrations with one night in Agra.

Looking for suggestions at possible itineraries for 9 nights including Jaipur, Jodphur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner...I know this may bee too much in or allowed time and happy to leave out any destination that we may not need to see. I believe it will be cooler in January so places like Bikaner and Jaisalmer may be cold.

Appreciate any feedback and also looking for a central hotel in India, 4 or 5 star.

Thank you :)

Dear visitors

You can do over night tour of agra by train or car in between your wedding program it is giving you more flexibility for rajasthan. But I suggest you can use same car/driver for agra and rajasthan because January month is foggy. I hope it clear but not sure so if you have car/driver then no problems in schedule time. You can drive as per weather conditions.

After wedding run your itinerary fm Delhi-jaipur(2N) - Pushkar(1) - bikaner(1) - jaisalmer(1) - sand dunes night(1)-jodhpur(1) - ranakpur (1)-kumbhalgarh- udaipur(1) next day full day visit in udaipur and take evening flight for Delhi or Mumbai from udaipur.

I hope it will be help you.

Thanks.

Hi,

Your Idea to visit Agra by train on 15th & 16th is very good. In 02 days time you can visit Agra - Fatehpur Sikri & Bharatpur Bird sanctuary very well. If your plan to utilize time more then can hire & driver for 02 days & visit Mathura- Vrindavan-Agra - Fatehpur Siri and Bharatpur , all places are in radius of 30 to 35 Kms.

As distances are quite long in Rajasthan so cover all cities in 09 days time would be hectic, it would better to use at least one way flight to save time ----

Plan :

Day 01 – DelhiUdaipur ( By Morning flight ) Visit Udaipur

Day 02 Morning visit Udaipur , after noon proceed to Jodhpur – en route visit Ranakpur- Kumbhalgarh....

Day 03 Jodhpur – Visit

Day 04 Jodhpur- Jaisalmer

Day 05 Jaisalmer

Day 06 Jaisalmer- Deshnok –Bikaner

Day 07 Bikaner- Visit , afternoon drive to Jaipur

Day 08 Visit Jaipur

Day 09 Jaipur- Delhi Airport----

Appreciate your feedback and our plan will be to do Agra 15th & 16th to cut that out of the rest of our tour of Rajasthan.

Will a driver take you one way to a final destination like Udaipur and then you fly back without them?

Also how cold will it be in Jaisalmer as maybe we could leave this destination out so we have more time elsewhere?

Thanks again :)

Well 9 nights I am thinking is excluding Agra . Even this might be a bit tight , so if you are ok with it , a possibility is to fly into Udaipur and spend just a night there and then 2 nights for Jodhpur , 2 for Jaisalmer , 2 for Bikaner , and perhaps 2 for Jaipur.

If 9 nights include Agra, then take day train to Agra and next day early head out to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri and via Abhaneri step well , spend the night in Jaipur..Spend next whole day in Jaipur touring and then take an overnight train to Jaisalmer. with 2 nights in Jaisalmer , 2 in Jodhpur and and 2 in UDaipur --- thats the only way to do this in possible 9 nights. ( leaving out Bikaner) If you are ok with doing overnight train travel and book well in advance , then this is a definite better itinerary as it will give you time and see all places. While with break in journey it might cost you little more than if it was one round trip , but that would hardly matter considering the experience of being able to do all that you want in the time that you have.

Unfortunately there is no flight to Jaislamer so train is the only alternative.

Thank you Idiscoverindia and the 9 nights does not include Agra, we would rather spend more time in less places than spend half our trip driving in a van so would prefer to see the best.

Jaisalmer is a must see destination , you should include it. In Dec & Jan sometimes too much fog so flight can be delayed /CXLD. It would be better to use flight first then use car.

Driver can pick u up easily in Udaipur.
