Hi,

Please elaborate the topic a bit. GT- do you mean Golden Triangle ? If so, it's not mandatory to have a guide for the Golden Triangle.

Thanks

The tourism department of the central government and state governments have created a group of guides with licenses who are authorised to take the guests to monuments in each city. It is the choice of the tourist, whether they want to use a guide or not. You can visit the monuments and just see them by yourself, with the help of a book. In some monuments there are audio-guides.

Each guide has his own area of operations (a central govt. guide being up in hierarchy can work in one zone which can be an area of 3-4 states or more whereas a state guide in his respective state only). Some people hire one person for their entire trip, some hire guides on a city basis. You can do your trip without a guide also however a guide can help you understand place, history and culture in a better way.

no its not mandatory and even if you do use the services of a guide- never go to a shop that this guide suggests coz they are usually fake govt. emporiums of places which charge you through the roof

Hi

It is not mandatory to take a guide to visit GT it all depends on the tourist .

you can visit the monuments by your own with the help of guide books or most of the monuments have the facility of audio guides.

My wife and I are in our 60s and will be in India in August - yes, we know it is the rainy season but we have no choice on the dates.

We are seeking to hire a car and driver in New Delhi to take us on a 5 night trip to Rishikesh, then Vrindavan, then Agra and then back to New Delhi. Where do we find one of the government licensed guides or must we get a different guide in each place we stay ? We want to choose our own hotels. How do we find a good travel company to hire car and driver without being over-charged ? Thank you for your help. If you wish to send a private message I can end my email to you privately.

As per your interest you can easily get a good guide in each city through help of your driver or use travel companies.

If you want to enjoy your tour with less price please PM to few DE members and hope you have good reliable transportation and guide in each city.

Car and driver you can hire from any tour agent. But if you want good service from guide then don't pay guides charges to the agent. You pay them directly because some agents charge guide fee from their client and they don't pay them. They hire from shop keepers and after the sightseeing guide force to the tourists to his shop for shopping. It is a game of commission and it goes to everybody. When guides get full charges from the tourists they take interest on the tourists. They explain them everything nicely and they don't force them for shopping. You hire guide through the driver or you can check a website viator tour guide. Through this website you can hire a guide your self in the any part of the World.
