4 * hotels

earlier we had planned kashmir, but there have been posts & even news dissuading...okay maybe not dissuading...but definitely not encouraging people to tour kashmir in this political environment. (mumbai-srinagar-mumbai air tickets were booked & then had to cancel them)

so,

planning shimla 3 nights (checkin 21oct14 - checkout 24oct14)

someone, anyone... suggest a 4 star shimla hotel with 3 star prices.

(i reckon cecil, wildflower are the choices i would have to eliminate)

how much does a 4* property charge (APAI)

btw: my dates would be 'offseason', right ?

we are making a trip to agra first (19oct) then proceed to delhi next day to take the chandigarh train, put up at any 2* (it's only a sleepover) & early next morning taxi to shimla

[this route preferred as not keen on a (or should it be 'an') 8 hour delhi-shimla bus travel]

oh...we are 5 (grownups)

again, someone, anyone... suggest a 4 star shimla hotel with 3 star prices. (i cannot emphasise enough on 3 star prices)

There is no 4 star certified hotel in Shimla. Radisson, Cecil can be considered as 4 star category. They don't give any discount as such. Approximate charge for 3 nts in MAP will be Rs.24-25K. Wildflower Hall is not in Shimla, however, they are in higher category, charge Rs.30-35K for 3 nts in MAP. High season starts from September 15.

mr. roy, the amounts you mentioned, made me think the hotel costing & my budget could be met....

then, i checked with cecil, they quoted: 36000 3 nights MAP & wildflower....a whopping 52000 3 nights MAP. could this be their final numbers or do they come down after negotiations.

btw: wouldn't mid october be mid season.

also, do i need 3 nights to visit all the scenic visuals of simla & it's proximity..

The rate may have escalated from September, 2015. Sometimes they give 15-20% discount on the rack rate. October is off peak season. 2 days would be okay for Shimla s/s.

5. Re: 4 * hotels

september 2015 may be a typo. you mean sept 2014, right?

off peak season would mean ....full season or mid season ?

with the shocking prices we may well decide to stay over at simla for 2 nights/3 days.

mr. ashis, can i take a chance & arrive at shimla without any booking & get spot booking at lower tariff than they quote over phone/email.

or, would all the premier hotels be fully occupied (oct21-24)

someone queried...why splurge on 4* hotels, when most of the day you are out sight seeing.

i was unable to offer any compelling reason.

anyone..wants to jump in...with their theories...

pvrvuv

Ooops..it should be read as September14. Its mid season in Oct 3rd week. Most of the High end hotels are likely to be preoccupied at that time.

9. Re: 4 * hotels

the tariff mentioned by the 4* hotels scared me.

here's a thought..maybe me & my family can check in at a 4/5* just on the outskirts of simla. (10-12 kms)

(okay, still no wildflower, but there would be others...yes?)

yeah, i am aware transportation then to simla city centre/mall/restaurants... & back would be an additional cost), but that would be maybe once a day & what would be the transportation cost...600/700 a round trip?

i could get an independent cottage on the outskirts, which would have cost me a bomb in simla.

what say eh..

A TRAIN QUERY:

i have just booked the shivalik dlx exp (kalka-simla 52451). the seat nos show CNF/C3/8/WINDOW SIDE, CNF/C3/9/NO CHOICE, CNF/C3/10/NO CHOICE......now pay attention, CNF/C1/3/NOCHOICE, CNF/C2/16/WINDOW SIDE. it looks like they have trifurcated (that's a word..right?) our seating. now, how can i get the full family to be seated together. i can request the co-passengers to accommodate/adjust/swap, but other than that what else?.

mr. ashisroy, i read your reply to someone else's posted query. you mentioned to stay over at chail/fagu RATHER than shimla & just take the day trip to shimla, then retire back to your chail/fagu hotel.

IS IT BECAUSE THE HOTELS ARE LESS COSTLIER THAN SHIMLA

or

CHAIL/FAGU BOASTS MORE SCENIC VISUALS THAN SHIMLA.

i have firmed up my air/train bookings. all paid for.

the hotels? i am planning to reach there & negotiate the best prices after checking out the rooms & facilities.

is it a good idea? (we are 5, 24oct to 26oct )
