How many days for Mysore?

How many days would you suggest for Mysore ? -for a relaxing time but to see the major sights.

also, what would you list as the key things to see besides the Mysore Palace?

And we don't want to go too far afield outside Mysore

1. Re: How many days for Mysore?

Three days are sufficient for Mysore to visit places at leisure:

day 1- start with Chamundi hill temple> monolithic Bull> Amba Vilas Palace (opens 10am), palace complex with museum> St.Philomina Church> Jaganmohan Palace art gallery> Brindavan gardens (after sunset)

day 2- Seringapatnam fort complex> Ranganathaswami temple> Somnathpura temple (30km from Mysore, but worth visiting for Hoysala sculptures)

day 3- full day tour to Sravanabelagola monolithic statue- Halebidu - Bellur medieval Hoysala temples.

*many western tourists may not be interested in Brindavan gardens, in that case you can visit Seringapatnam on day 1 and save day 2

Plan atleast 3 days in Mysore.

Local Mysore,you can visit Palace,Zoo,Brindavan Gardens,Chamundi hills & Srirangapattana/Ranganathittu,spread over two days.

An additional day can be spent covering Somnathpur,Halebeedu & Belur.

One day will be too short for Mysore. I have seen many friends (from Bangalore) who try to save the stay cost and return the same day, without seeing many good attractions. I would say it is worth paying that hotel room and enjoy the city fully :)

As Bornav indicated, you need at least two full days (three, if you want to have a relaxed trip) to see the important places. That way you can cover nearby places like Srirangapatna and not so popular destinations within the city like Railway museum (a small, but enjoyable place, especially for kids).

Also, don't miss the famous mysore pak in Guru sweet mart: thehindu.com/features/…article4129960.ece

you can have a look at the link provided with the question Mysore visitor attractions and also the small article written on Mysore.

More than the built heritage, which is marvelous, what is attractive about Mysore are the living traditions including cultural events, drop in yoga classes, cycling and walking options, traditional markets and so on.

Lesser known attractions such as the Garrison Cemetery in Srirangapatnam, The Mounted Police stables, the Bonsai Garden at Ganapathi Ashram, moonlight concerts at Suttur, should be of interest to those who would like to loinger for longer than tick off sites from a list.
