Stopovers

Hi

We will have 2 separate stopovers in Mumbai.

1. Times 08.30-13.40 between domestic flights

2. Times 18.00-01.30 between domestic & international.

What is airport like? Anything we can do?

Domestic there is not at lot to do, there is a cafe for drinks and food, and a newsagents for papers and gifts. at least 90 minutes of your arrival time will involve immigration and transfer of terminals.

Ai international after security there is a bar, but its very expensive at 450 rupees for a can of Kingfisher..... There is also a selection of duty free shops.

Is there anywhere we could go for aoprox 4 hours outside of airport, eg any sights/attractions/city tour, or is it not long enough?

The First stopover in between flights can be utilize to go and visit the Juhu beach and have a stroll for a while,& also visit the Isckon temple at Juhu. If you do not have heavy luggage.& your flight arrives on time.As you can cover this places by hiring a taxi and well within 3 hrs to return back to the domestic airport by 12-00noon max.

As to the second stopover. You can have good Dine & Dinner as there are many Hotels around both the airports(but suggest to reach in the vicinity of International airport so that can reach to the airport earlier & with ease where there are many hotels & each have at least 2/3 restaurants/bar in house so can select from the cuisine of your choice & visit one.

Hi Gini,

Having spent a good part of the last week sitting in horrendous traffic, I would advise going to Juhu only if it is not monsoon, not Ganapati festival time and not pre-Diwali.

Check-in closes 45 mins prior to departure. Exit from terminal on arrival, provided flight lands on time can sometimes take upto 30 minutes - sometimes even longer. Varies greatly. With the kind of waterlogging we had in the city today, I would advise that they do not wander very far from the airport at all if arriving this week.

The are two reasons for not leaving the airport at the moment, one is the traffic, due to various building programmes around the airport traffic is manic at the moment and will be for the next 18 months, two security is also very high at the moment so its easier just to take the shuttle bus around.

I second Gathering's views, having similarly spent more time in my car the last couple of days than anywhere else. For the first stopover, crossing to Juhu can mean cutting it fine if we have heavy rain. Traffic then becomes completely unpredictable. For the second stopover too, at the most, you could get dinner at one of the several restaurants in hotels around the international airport. That is rush hour time and if coupled with rain, all roads get grid-locked bumper-to-bumper.
