How much spending money is enough?

Hi,

I am planning on spending 3 weeks in Mumbai in June/July on a trip with my Uni. Flights, accomodation, visas, meals etc are all covered, just wanted to ask how much spending money is ample (AUD/USD), and maybe how much basic things are as a comparison?

Thanks

If all essentials are covered, that only leaves shopping and travelling.

Shopping completely depends on you of course. But, if you tell us what you're interested in shopping for, we could guide you about where to go and approximate costs involved.

As far as travelling is concerned, you could look to hire a car or use taxis. And if you are going to be in the suburbs, you could use autorickshaws, which are quite cost-effective.

Hope this helps...

Out of curiosity, what's Uni?

Hello Whitey12334,

As all is covered by your Uni= University. You only need money mainly for travelling an average per day US$ 20 for travel taking taxis some quick bits, fruits etc should be good enough. As to shopping personal needs it is all related how much you want & resists as even a country's treasury would not be enough as all the things on the earth would be available here. But some US$ 200/500 can be allocated depends on your spending habits.

You really have asked a bit of an open question! Are you the type of student who likes to go out clubbing or sink quantities of beer in the evening? Will you be planning to get out and about and see the sights and head out of town on side trips at weekends? Will you be shopping? You can spend as much out clubbing in Bombay (and admission charges are high at the smart clubs) as you might in a European city. Or you can go somewhere cheaper for cheapish beers at about 70 or 80 rupees a bottle. Suggest you get hold of an up to date Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for Bombay and start mugging up on the extra curricular things that interest you and you may get an idea of prices. Aside from taxis and tuk tuks (not for me in heavy traffic!), there are also buses and local trains, whilst packed to the gills, do not get stuck in traffic jams, a feature of Bombay!

Time Out is fairly good too there to give you an idea of what's going onion the music and bar scene etc!
