There are several non-profits which work with women and children, doing long term and excellent work. I don't like the ones with religious agendas, so here are some that don't have religious overtones: I have first hand knowledge of these and can recommend them without hesitation:

Larger ones: Sneha and Akanksha Foundation, both are doing outstanding work.

There is one smaller non-profit that I would highly recommend as well:

Dharati Art Room - https://www.facebook.com/dharaviartroom

I suggest that you bring NOTHING with you from overseas to give. Buy here. Things are really inexpensive in India and 10 dirhams will go a long way here. Also each non-profit will have clear ideas of what they really need and how you can help. So it is best to ask them directly rather than assume things.
