Hi,

Between the 2, choose Colaba. Nariman Point being commercial area, after closure of all offices in the vicinity the are is deserted. If you travelling with kids, you can take walk near Gateway of India and go shopping in and around Colaba.

Besides Taj has far better restaurants (Zodiac Grill, Wasabi) than Oberoi. Other eating joints nearby are Indigo, Cafe Leopold, Chetana, Copper Chimney and many others..

Hello dubai976,

Both the hotels have their own charm. The Taj very old heritage & oriental type of hotel whereas Oberoi more modern.

Although Taj also is on the Seafront as Oberoi but the view of the Sea is more better and its surrounding is more calmer & peaceful than Taj. As Taj has Gateway Of India at its front entrance which is a busy touristic site so lots of hustle bustle around as many hotels, shops and all sorts of tourist activities around and so will find more traffic most of the hours.Whereas near the Oberoi will find hardly any such hustle bustle and not much of traffic even.

The Oberoi has a twin adjacent hotel The Trident and both are interconnected from inside and Trident has many shops on the ground & mezzanine floor besides the nearby CR2 Mall if you wish to go shopping and also many option of restaurants just behind in the CR2 Mall & Nariman Business District .

So as to location, more peaceful & calm Oberoi scores. And if you and the kids love walking by the sea. The complete promenade just in front of the Oberoi & Trident is very beautiful and go on long walks. The famous Queen's Necklace when lit up at night stretching entire Marine Drive( from Nariman Point to Chowpatty) can be viewed from The Oberoi or from the promenade in front of it.

Personally, I would go for Taj Colaba for its location and sea views. Mumbai's most recognized monument, the Gateway of India, is right in front of Taj. You get boats from here to Elephanta caves. Colaba is the happening place of Mumbai with nightclubs, restaurants, pubs, the art galleries and plenty of shopping options.

As posted by CarLinkMumbai, Nariman Point is more of a commercial area and it’s deserted in the evenings.

No doubt, Colaba has plenty of restaurants around and shopping areas and Nariman Point cannot be considered in this aspect.

Queens necklace is only a short cab ride from Colaba.

With kids,I would go with the Oberoi (more with The Trident). It is a more peaceful location. Colaba is far too touristy and chaotic. All this talk of being deserted (which it never really is) is irrelevant because you don't need the rest of Nariman Point

thank you all for the very interesting and informative replies regarding this matter.

i'm still not 100% sure which area to choose but "indiaspeaks" made me rethink the oberoi and maybe go there as he made very good points in regard of the hustle and bustle of the colaba area...

seems that both locations have advantages and disadvantages...

again very interesting replies and information from the members...

Hello dubai976,

Staying at Nariman Point does not mean one cannot be around Taj, Gateway or Colaba Causeway when one wish to be.

As both area are just 1.5kms apart from each other and can even make it up on foot or by taxi with a minimum fare.

As such have advantages of both the areas if opt to stay at The Oberoi or even The Trident.

Hi dubai976,

Both Corba and Nariman point are good suggestions. Both are just abt 2km apart. Its you who should decide if you want to stay in Taj by having a wonderful view of Gateway experiencing the heritage style luxury or in Oberoi facing the marine drive from where you can enjoy the modern style luxury.
