Jaipur vs. Udaipur

I have five days after a trip to Mumbai and I'm thinking about visiting Jaipur or Udaipur or both, around the second week of March. Should I do just one? Or should I do both? If I do both, should I do three days in Jaipur or Udaipur?

I'm trying to read some guide books as well, but need to make these decisions sooner rather than later.

I will prefer to do Udaipur and Jodhpur. You can visit Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh fort also in that area.

Jaipur has its own charm but it is busy and crowded while places mentioned are quiter and not very busy.

Something like this would work very well; giving you a mix of lakes, forts, palaces, temples, a drive through the Aravalli hills, etc.

Day 1 - Fly Mumbai-Udaipur, sightseeing

Day 2 - Udaipur sightseeing and leisure

Day 3 - Drive to Ranakpur, sightseeing; Kumbhalgarh visit. Overnight at either Ranakpur or Kumbhalgarh

Day 4 - Drive to Jodhpur, sightseeing

Day 5 - Jodhpur sightseeing; fly to Mumbai

One more suggestion-

Day 1 - Fly Mumbai-Udaipur, sightseeing & overnight stay

Day 2 - Udaipur sightseeing (overnight stay)

Day 3 - Drive to Ajmer or Pushkar. Evening sightseeing (overnight)

Day 4 -Am sightseeing . Drive to Jaipur. Pm sightseeing(overnight stay)

Day 5 - jaipur sightseeing; fly to Mumbai

Same can be done in reverse sequence........

We have just returned from a month in Rajasthan. I would go for Deepa's suggestion of combining Udaipur with Jodhpur and Ranakpur. We really enjoyed both cities and you will see different sides of India including the amazing countryside.
