A week in Jaipur

We will be in Jaipur for a week in August - possibly not the best time to visit but we are constrained by when we can travel. Any suggestions as to what to see and do would be appreciated. We are happy wandering around and like to relax when on holiday i.e not trying to cram too much in to too short a time.

We enjoyed seeing the palaces and observatory, liked very much Amber Palace but wished we'd had time to visit the fort overlooking it, and really wished we'd seen the stepwell at Abhaneri tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g304555-…

One week is great to cover Jaipur and things around. Aug definitely isnt the best time but u gotta make the best of wot u have :)) Its extremely hot so beware and be prepared (Though I was in Greece fr summers and Jaipur seems same) So carry lots of sun protection and stay hydrated.

Here is a 100% non commercial blog that I write on and have compiled a few itineraries and other jaipur related stuff that may be useful:

Happy Travelling!

You can do a day trip to Pushkar or an overnight trip to Udaipur or Jodhpur.

August is not as bad as the summers can be. If it rains Jaipur can be very pleasant. Since you like to do things slow and easy I would recommend you devote half the day for sightseeing and the afternoon for relaxing. Evenings can be for bazaar browsing.

1 - Amer and the walk upto Sagar lake including Jagat Shiromani, Panna Meena Kund and Anokhi Museum

2 - City Palace & Observatory complex including Gvind Devji (try and catch an aarti)

3 - Pick up a copy of Dharmendar Kanwar's 10 Walks of Jaipur and take your pick of one or two walks

4 - Early morning Galta and the climb up to Surya Mandir to see the sun coming up on the city

5 - Afternoon visit to Jaigarh and Nahargarh catching the sunset at Nahargarh

6 - A day trip to Bhangarh & Abhaneri

Great suggestions by all. I really enjoyed the Galta temple (monkey temple). If you go buy a big bag of bananas at a market stand beforehand. I can tell a place NOT to go....the Jaipur Zoo...ugh, sad and depressing! Jaipur has great markets, off the beaten path and great street food, if you want to get adventurous! Crowds are much less in August too.

We loved...

City Palace & Jantar Mantar do have a guide they can bring it to life just amazing

Jaigarh Fort and Nahargar Fort and Amber Palace

Galta do take the time to walk up to the Sun Temple the priest there was lovely and the views on the way there and back stunning

We did a day trip to Bhangarh really amazing and no one there and then onto Abhaneri step well

Royal Gaitor again with a guide was really interesting

Having a guide for us was the key we learnt so much from him
