Can non-guests join RTDC Holi Celebrations at Khasa Kothi?

Seven more sleeps until we leave for our first ever visit to India - needless to say we are VERY excited.

We will be in Jaipur for Holi, and have been reading through many many posts on this forum about the celebrations. We, of course, want to participate but be safe while doing so.

We have read that the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation hosts Holi celebrations at the Khasa Kothi hotel. Can anyone advise whether non-hotel-guests are welcome to join these celebrations? We did send an email to RTDC asking this but unfortunately have not received a response.

Many thanks in advance,

Lise & Sabrina

Thanks Shyam. We thought this might be a good option, allowing us to experience the celebrations, in a safe way.

We are so very excited!

Sujit,

If you read our original post you would see we were travelling to Jaipur for Holi 2014.

We have returned from a very successful trip, all of which we planned ourselves...

It would seem you may be prompting for business, please do be careful as you are not permitted to solicit on TripAdvisor.

Did you attend the Holi Celebrations at Khasa Kothi? If so, can you please tell me a little more about them, your day, and if you enjoyed the experience?

We will be in India for Holi in 2015, and I'm a little worried this celebration will be a little too tourist sanitised. We are, however, looking for a safe way to experience Holi.

Thanks!

Hi NomieGnomie,

We did end up joining the celebrations at Khasa Kothi, after reading reports of people's experiences during Holi, and discussing it with our hotel's owner, we decided this was the safest way we could play colours.

We wouldn't call the experience sanitised - how your experience will be will partly depend on the size of your group, and if you're the type of person to get involved in such play with complete strangers. There were people from all nationalities at the celebrations, colours were provided but many people also brought their own. There were traditional dance displays, and lots of loud music for people to jump around to. There was also security, meaning nothing got out of hand.

We walked back from Khasa Kothi to our hotel, only about 1.5km... During that time we had many people stop to place colours on us, and give us hugs. Unfortunately in that short walk, there were quite a few who had had a few too many, and this gave them dutch courage to go for the grope, on both me in my 30s and Sabrina in her 50s. It seems the younger kids were fine, and the older men were fine, but those between late teens and early 30s were overly friendly.

We loved playing holi, and would do it again, and would certainly use Khasa Kothi as a safe place to experience it.
