There is a currency exchange service at the airport, ofcourse, and operates 24hrs.

Pre paid taxi service don't accept dollars but why give dollars when the currency exchange sevice is just next door?

Suggest you not to exchange dollars at the hotels as they offer very low rates. Go to some banks or authorised Money exchange dealers. Keep the reciept safely when youe xchange the dollars as these receipts would be useful when you wish to convert Indain rupees into dollars while leaving India.

At first fill-in the arrival form given to you by the airhostess in the aircraft itself (this saves lot of your time).

The immigration will detach a stub after fixing their seal and give it to you. Keep this safely with you.

Once you have completed immigration formalities, you will be direcetd to baggage claim area. This may take some time and you may have to wait .If you are lucky you will get very soon.If not lucky , you will get at the end.

Picking up the baggage, go to the Currency exchange service counter that is in the baggage claim area itself.Keep the receipt till you leave India.

(If you find that your baggage has not come early, you can go over to the currency exchange area and get dollars converted into Rupees.)

After collecting the baggage and currency converted, you will have to pass thru customs. Choose Green Channel in the customs area if you have nothing to declare as dutiable goods. As you come out the customs, handover the stub (that the immigration gave you).

As you come out of the customs area, you will notice prepaid taxi counters..There are 3 companies(if i remember ccorrect) that offer taxis to the city. Tell your destination (or hotel name) and you will be told the fare..Pay the amount in Rupees for which you will be given a receipt in duplicate. Two of the comapnies will guide you to the taxi helping you with your baggage.Hand over one of the receipts and keep one for you.

It is suggested that not to take a taxi after you come out of the terminal building as they are taxi touts who may charge you more.

It would take about 30-40mnts to reach the city if you arrive in the night or early morning One hour or a bit more if you arrive during morning peak hours.

Most important is to keep your eyes always on all your baggages till it is kept in the taxi.
