Beaches near to Chennai

We are planning a trip to the Chennai area of India, this will be our third time in India but first on the East Coast. Can anybody advise of any nearby beaches that would be nice for a few days and easily accessable by taxi from Chennai., many thanks, Steve

Hi...

The Marina and Elliots(Besant Nagar) are the beaches in the vicinity of the city itself but I assume, your idea of a beach is just not to visit. The entire stretch of East Coast Road (ECR) is in the border of the beach and you may choose based on your preference. There are a lot of resorts across budgets, which are beach front and decide based on you expectations.

MGM and Fishermans cove are good ones which I have visited and worth staying . Based on the budget , as prasanna suggested ,there are various resorts available throughout that coast . Just be watchful that some dont have beach as part of their compound and have to go bit out of the track .

Hello friend,

ECR (East Coast Road), will give a nice experience to you. From Chennai, Within 43 km via this route you will get Mahabalipuram which is one of the famous spot in chennai. You will get lots of resorts depends upon your requirement. But ECR is not just a single road, it connects Chennai to Kanyakumari (Southern Part near 700 Km), So If you travel through this route you will definitely enjoy a thrilling moments. My best suggestion is to take a journey at morning or evening time & during day time spend your time in resorts.

Have a happy Journey!

Hi,

Chennai ECR drive is awesome. If you are looking for beaches, then drive down to MAHABALIPURAM. where you will find many beach-side resorts. To enjoy more you can drive further to PONDICHERRY which is 150 km from chennai via ECR. This would be the best drive and i am sure you are gonna love it.

Mr. Steve.. thanks for choosing east coast road chennai as your tourist spot.. The better idea is check in a room in resort which located in OMR Road or ECR (East Coast Road). which you can enjoy the whole east coast road stretch.. hotel aloft, taj gateway.. asiana in OMR Road and in ECR you can hire MGM Resort.
