Darjeeling/ Gangtok/ Pelling trip 3D/4N

Hi

We are planning a trip to Darjeeling and around; my wife, myself and 5yr old son. Arrive early morning NJP 11.06 and depart bagdogra noon 15.06

Plan to spend 2 days darjeeling and maybe 1.5 days another location (pelling? Gangtok? Any other?). could you help us with a rough itinerary.

We'd like to stay in a comfortable 4+ star place with great views and not do too much sightseeing, just relax and chill out and try out great eating places.

any suggestions? Budget is approx 40k excluding air/ train fare to Njp/bagdogra but including local travel.

Thanks in advance,

cruiser_ind

Hi,

I would suggest you do 3 nights Darjeeling and 1 night Kalimpong/Pelling. Gangtok needs some more time to sightsee properly.

In Darjeeling the standard sightseeing is HMI, Tea Gardens, Botanical Garden, Tiger hill for sunrise and Ghoom Monastery on the way back. Toy Train Joyride in the afternoon. Since you don't want too much sightseeing, keep Gangtok for next trip.

I would suggest Cedar Inn or Elgin, Mayfair is very good if you can afford it. In Kalimpong, stay at Silver Oaks, thats the best around.

Good luck.

Considering your idea of leisure trip, I would suggest the itinerary as follows.

Day1 Arr Bagdogra, transfer to Pelling, check-in Mt. Pandim.

Day2 Pelling - Waterfalls, Lake and Pemiyangshe Monastery.

Day3 After breakfast transfer to Darjeeling, check-in H. Windamere, evening -stroll on the mall.

Day4 Toy train ride, Zoo and Happy Valley tea garden.

Day5 After breakfast - Transfer to Bagdogra for return flight.

If you want to relax in a quiet, serene place then instead of Pelling, you can opt for Kaluk (not too far from pelling), spend two nights there and then come to Darjeeling. You can follow this roughly if it suits you:-

11.06.12 - Arr NJP/Bagdogra & tranfer to Kaluk

12 .06.12- Relax at Kaluk -- local sightseeing

13.06.12 - After Breakfast transfer to Darjeeling. Check into Mayfair/Windamere/Elgin. Night stay.

14.06.12 - Stay at Darjeeling

15.06.12 - After breakfast, start for Bagdogra. If you have your flight after 3pm, then you can travel via Mirik (otherwise via Pankhabari route straight to Bagdogra)

For food in Darjeeling, Do check out Glenary's ( Ground floor for breakfast/evening snacks & first floor for lunch/dinner), Keventers for mouthwatering sandwiches, salami, sausages, coffee, hot chocolate, Kunga for Momos and Shangri La for Chinese. Also dont forget to have Darjeeling tea at the two tea bars on the Mall (Golden Tips & Nathmulls).

Thank you all for your replies and guidance. As suggested, am not going to Gtok but spending 2n in Pelling then 2n in Darjeeling. Staying in the Elgin properties both places.. windamere was fully booked for 14th.

EsEm66 will try out your food suggestions!

15 years ago in Darjeeling i remember visiting a white pagoda and hearing their evening prayer chants.... Is that called the Peace Pagoda? Still worth visiting?

Cheers, cruiser_ind

Mt. Pandim (elgin property) in Pelling is located a few metres from Pemiyangshey monastery.

Yes, Peace Pagoda is the same one, which you have seen before. Nothing special.
