Kolkata next October

We are a couple and we are going to india next October. Our first stop will be Kolkata, and we will probably stay in the city for 2-3 days.

Do you have any suggestions, like cheap but clean hotels, near the touristic area, tours, places to go, not to go, dangerous area, restaurants, nightlife, etc.

Thanks in advance

October is festive month in this year. Mega event Durga Puja will be celebrated from 20-24th October. If you want to avoid crowd, make your programme accordingly.

However, you can see Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum, New Market, Belur Math and the river bank. Even you can spend a night at Santiniketan, 200 kms away. To experience village life and open air school etc of Viswa Bharati, founded by Rabindranath Tagore.

There are ample restaurants of all tastes. In Park Street area, you'll get Mocambo, Peter Cat [continental], Bar-B-Q, [chinese]. Local food can be tasted in Aheli.

There are about 10 well renowned night clubs in Kolkata.

Avoid walk on the road after 10 pm.

For clean centrally located mid budget hotels, take a look at Hotel Lindsay and Hotel Lytton. Cost per night will be approx USD 70-100 For a even cheaper hotel look at www.astoria.in but you will need deluxe rooms, that standard rooms are not so good.
