to put it bluntly--no
We always use the ferry. Depending on the day of the week you might have a wait. The weekends are busy and most likely you'll have to wait. We've arrived on Thursday or Friday and were able to get right on.
If your trip is during the summer and you'll be coming into town on a Sat. or Sunday, then stay away from the ferry. The lines during peak times are horrible! We've had the unfortunate luck of trying to use the ferry twice in the summer and not being able to get on. It wasted tons of time b/c we then had to drive all the way back to Mobile and cross over the bridge to get to GS. Our first bad experience was due to the ferry's being shut down--but there were no signs saying this until we actually got all the way to the DI bridge. The second time, we made it to DI and got to the ferry line--but they were predicting at least a 3 hour wait. Needless to say, we've given up on the ferry. If you're going during non-peak times, it might be worth trying, though.
Thanks!! Think we'll pass on the ferry!
