Toddler vacation

We are looking for the best beach for a 3year old? Also what time of the year is best to go?

There are many great places for toddlers from Perdido Key west through Gulf Shores. Our personal favorite is The Beach Club in the Fort Morgan area of Gulf Shores. It is a large gated resort far away from busy roads and has lots of flat walkways and green areas along the beach that are good for strollers. Most guests that stay here are families or those looking for a relaxing vacation. The whole place has a tropical island feel to it with palm trees and beautiful landscaping everywhere. It has both outdoor and indoor pools and a large kiddie pool. The resort also has two restaurants and an ice cream shop.

Since your toddler is not yet in school, I recommend coming to the beach at a time when other children are in school. The beaches are less crowded at such times and condo rentals are much less expensive. We have found that the best times are from the middle of August through the middle of October. The Gulf of Mexico and pools are still warm enough for swimming and the temperatures are more mild.

I have been swimming pretty consistently now for the last two weeks. So now through October will be perfect for swimming in the gulf and the temperatures will only get better as spring progresses. The best beach for a toddler IMO is the north side of West Pass. Gulf Shores has done a lot of work on the beach, parking lot and the gulf side of this little pass. It is perfect for children because there are no waves and if you do want the waves you can just walk across the street. They have a new lifeguard station there as well.

My three cautions about a toddler on the beach

Use a lot of sunscreen frequently ie every 20-30 minutes and it needs a hat/cap And then use more sunscreen!

Stay out of tidal pools unless you can clearly see what is in it

Stay between the toddler and the open water

This said...it is more often "the swimmer" that drowns
