Where to stay

Looking to visit Gulf Shores area for a long weekend. Would like something on the beach, close to restraunts/bars etc, just looking for somewhere to lay our head so doesn't have to top of the line accomadations. Just need a couple of recommendations to start the search. Thanks in advance.

If you are just coming for a few nights I would take a look at the Hampton Inn in Orange Beach or Phoenix Allsuites in Gulf Shores. The Phoenix Allsuites is right next to the Pink Pony and other bars/restuarants. All rooms in both hotels are gulf-front. If you are interested in condos, the Lighthouse in Gulf Shores, and all of the Phoenix buildings and the Tidewater in Orange Beach have one bedroom condos. The Lighthouse is also not too far from the Pink Pony.

Thanks, are there any other places that may be a little lesser you'd recommend?

There is a Holiday Inn Express just off Hwy 59 less than a mile from the beach. It is close to everything but not on the beach. Anything less than the Hampton Inn will more than likely not be beachside.

The Island House Hotel may have better prices. It is an older hotel but has a great location and every room has a great view of the beach. Another option is to check the vacation listings for Gulf Shores here on TripAdvisor or at VRBO.com for a deal. Just remember that if you rent a condo you usually have to pay an additional cleaning fee.

We used to stay at the Island House Hotel & were happy. This was about 7 yrs ago. All rooms had great views. Then we figured out that hotels cost about the same as condos so we changed to renting condos. So just keep an eye out for that! Good luck!

We have stayed at The Island House hotel before and so have my parents...GREAT place...all rooms have a gulf front view...very clean....right on the beach and very reasonable. We just got back from Orange Beach this past Monday morning and couldn't get the ISLAND HOUSE, so we got a room at The Holiday Inn Express in

Orange Beach and it was wonderful. The rooms were very clean, bed was very comfy, bath was large and very nice. Anything you need, they have and will bring it to you. Lobby is very nice and hotel is right on the beach,,,nice pool area with hot tub. We didnt get a gulf front room, but we could see it from our balcony....the FREE breakfast is to die for....scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, bisquits with sausage gravy, fruit, boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, milk, orange juice, apple juice and all kinds of coffee....well worth it. You would spend around $20-$25 at a restaurant for breakfast. We have reservations at the Island House the end of July....I hope the jellys are gone and the water is clear and the rain is gone!

DO NOT RECOMMEND MEYER REAL ESTATE to find rental. First of all, when booking the place, Meyer tried to charge us $800 more than the quoted, stated rate that we got from the condo owner. Additionally, when traveling with 2 small children, my husband and I decided to keep driving overnight and got to Gulf Shores at 6 a.m. We called Meyer early that morning and asked them if there was any way we could check in before our 3 p.m. check-in time. At this time, they weren't sure, but said they would do their best and we should check back later. We checked back twice more that morning, and at 10:30 a.m. - they said housecleaning was in unit next door and our unit was next! Wow, we were excited to hear that!!! At 1:00, we called and learned that housecleaning had not even STARTED cleaning our room and there was no way it would be ready until 3:00 p.m, if that. My husband expressed his displeasure to Meyer and they tried to buy him off to keep us from writing this review. Condo renter BEWARE of false promises from Meyer Real Estate!
