Huntsville Trip

We are planning a couple days away with our kids, ages 8 & 10, along with one set of grandparents and have decided to head to Huntsville. Suggestions on where to stay and what to do??? We plan on arriving on a Saturday and staying through Tuesday in early June.

There are several things in Huntsville and the surrounding area that you might enjoy.

US Space and Rocket Center http://www.spacecamp.com/museum/

Sci-Quest http://www.sci-quest.org/home/

Earlyworks Musuem, Constitution Village and Huntsville Depot http://www.earlyworks.com/

North Alabama Railroad Musuem http://www.northalabamarailroadmuseum.com/

Cathedral Caverns in Grant, AL http://www.alapark.com/CathedralCaverns/

Dismals Canyon near Phil Campbell http://www.dismalscanyon.com/

You didn't mention what you were willing to spend on a hotel room but there are several new hotels in town that vary from budget to luxury. There's a Westin at the Bridgestreet development, an Embassy Suites near downtown, new Comfort Inn at 4725 University Drive and a new La Quinta Inn & Suites Madison at 105 Westchester Road. I could make more suggestions if I knew what you were looking for.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden is a nice spot and they have some dedicated space and educational programs for kids and a nice cafe (Clementine's) for Lunch.

You might try Monte Sano State Park if you like "outdoorsy" stuff. There are some hiking and biking trails there. Would be a good place for a picnic lunch. There are cabins for rent, too.

Sometimes the are Saturday Evening shows at the Planetarium.

Also, consider the Burritt Museum on Monte Sano

The have activities for kids plus a cool concert series on Friday nights in the Summer.
