Melaka to KL by train

Staying at Melaka next April for 3 nights and were told it is a scenic trip back to KL on the train. Most recent posts seem to suggest bus or taxi. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

probably because the train does not go to melaka. the closest station is at tampin, about 38km north of the city.

so is it worth catching a bus to Tampin, then the trainto KL? I ususlly find that train travel is more comfortable.

Is smoking allowed in the buses or trains in Malaysia? Are the buses crowded or are you allocated a seat?

We would happily get a taxi to Tampin if the trip on the train was worthwhile. Thanks for any input.

Hi ann,

The train is a long ride to KL and often does not show up on time. You can take the comfy bus and enjoy almost similar journey. Choose buses such as Transnational, Nice Executive and KKKL which is certainly more comfortable than the malaysian train.

Hi there.

Just took Transnacional coach from Melaka to Bukit Jalil. Took us an hour. Pity as I was having a wonderful sleep. Bus was only 1/3 full. Cost 22rm per person.

Just watch the taxi touts when you get off the bus at Bukit Jalil. They mob you like a pack of wild monkeys.

They asked 60rm for trip. 35rm is reasonable.

Taxi driver tried to put both suitcases in boot, with both sticking half out as he had a gas tank in boot. Wouldnt agree to this. So one suitcase and 1 hand luggage went in with boot lid closed. The other suitcase went in front passenger seat. 2nd hand luggage went between us on back seat. Taxi ride took us about 25 mins to our hotel.

Cheers. Danuta.

Hi Ann,

By next year, the temporary Bukit Jalil bus station will not be in use and replaced by Bandar tasik selatan station hub which is a transit point with LRT and KLIA link.
