Casa del Rio vs Majestic

Hi,

We are on the brink of booking one of these for a two night honeymoon stay. Just wondering if there is much difference between the two in terms of standard?

At the minute Majestic is edging it but it seems to be a bit further away from town and attractions, is the walk prohibitive? We are both about 30yrs old and fit so we don't mind walking as long as it is safe at night etc.

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

I can't comment on the hotels, but central Melaka is walkable for a relatively fit person. Casa del Rio is certainly more central, just a block away from Jonkers St, but the Majestic is only a 10 minute walk in the other direction.

We stayed at The Sterling ourselves, and found the hotel fine, and also nicely central.

Hi,

Both hotels offer good standard of service and quality of accommodation.

Casa del Rio has 5 floors of rooms with resort style layout; open courtyard, roof top infinity pool and river frontage and Majestic has12 floors of rooms with a 2 storey original colonial mansion as the lobby and the sole restaurant/bar.

Casa is definitely well located and Majestic is 15 mins walk either through the old town or by the river walk where you can also hop on the river boat to reach china town.

Casa del Rio uses Mediterranean inspired design while Majestic embellishes from the Peranakan antiques and design unique to the city. A stay in Majestic will enrich your experience and understanding of Melaka past especially with the free walking tour. Its surrounding is however marred by the huge out-of-place condo construction to the left side across the road but saves by the pretty old Malay village across the river.

If you only stay for a night or two, Casa del Rio's location allows you to cover all historic centre but Majestic lets you see more side of Melaka outside the centre.

Thanks for the responses guys, food for thought there.

We will be getting the bus to and from KL, is either of these particularly close to where it drops us or is it a bit of a trip to both? We won't be travelling at odd times so can get a taxi etc if needed

Thanks

Hi,

The bus station is outskirt of the town so it is not a walking distance to any places of interest.

A taxi to Majestic takes about 10-15 minutes costing RM10-RM15 and it takes a further 5-10 minutes to reach Casa del Rio but on weekends from noon onwards, congestion within historic centre may add extra 10-30 mins to reahc Casa del Rio.
