weather, good resturants, Orange Beach 3/29 -4/7 2009

This will be our first trip to this area and looking forward to it! We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Orange Beach and wondered what good resturants are within walking distance.

What will the weather be like? We are from Northern Maine so anything would be an improvement.

We are renting a car to explore the area. Any points of interest that is a must see?

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Come see us in Fairhope--45 minutes away

http://www.cofairhope.com/

Several good lunch places-Sandras, Panini Petes, Maryann's deli, Julwyns for breakfast. See the shops, walk the pier. City plants flowers at downtown corners--

Stop at Weeks Bay Estuary Center on the way free exhibits and walkway---on 98 between Foley and Fairhope. If you decide to come I'll share the scenic route in detail

Wow...staying that long you may be better off in a Gulf front condo. Definitely more room than a motel. Weather should be pleasant, probably in the 70's. Check out www.gulfshores.com for restaurant information. Visit Mobile and the battleship. Tour the naval museum in Pensacola. Drive 1.5 to 2 hours to a casino in Biloxi, MS. Shop the outlets in Foley. Unique restaurant in Foley...The Gifthorse...southern cusine...not as touristy as Gulf Shores and Orange Beach...www.gifthorserestaurant.com

That is wahy we are staying at a Holiday inn. I started looking at condos and was overwhelmed, not being familiar with the area. This trip is to explore and look for a place to go in the winter time. My husband and I are close to retirement and love Northern Maine but as we get older the winters are long. We have been to Florida several times and don't like the traffic. We were told by several people that the Gulf shores is the place to be!

You were told right. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are wonderful! Always have a lot of snowbirds during the Winter months. Most will be gone when you arrive. In fact the 1st of April gets into Spring Break, but a "family" Spring Break area. Have any questions about condos in the area, just post them here and you'll get quite a few opinions. Fairhope is wonderful! We spent part of our honeymoone there! If you did want info on condos, there are a lot of people to help you here. Also we (hubby and me) highly recommend the Island House Hotel in Orange Beach. If we're not staying at a condo, this is where we are staying at. Excellent views from every room and a nice lobby and beautiful pool area w/ plantings etc. You will love it down there. Be sure to eat at Lamberts in Foley!
