New Years in Shanghai

Hi guys,

My fiance will be in Shanghai for new years eve this year. I did a search but it didn't return any threads.

Just wondering if anyone has celebrated new years eve in Shanghai and if so where is the place to be?

Looking forward to it :)

Adrian

English calender New year is never celebrated on a grand scale like the Chinese Lunar New Yr in China.Only small clebrations by individual establishments, bars, bistros, entertainment centers at Xintiandi, along Hengshan lu,Bund,n new yr promotions at hotels.U will b disappointed by the lack of fireworks or crackers unlike the Lunar New Yr.,moreover its freezing cold it should be more comfortable huddle under a thick blanket.

Its not a real happening time. expats, those who can and want to, go home as well. Business travel also drops off.

In essence, benny is correct.

I suggest you get out of china and head for manila or thailand for a few days if you can.

yes,Christmas r better spend in Manila,Singapore or Penang rather than Shanghai. However they r warm n certainly not white Christmas.Unless its unexpected like certain parts of NSW / Victoria Australia was snowing at this time of yr.Thailand better spend during buddhist celebrations.
