Cruise Port into the centre of Shanghai

Arriving into Shanghai as part of our cruise. How far is the cruise port into the centre. We are thinking of doing the 'hop on hop off' bus rather than one of the cruise lines tours. Does anyone know the nearest 'bus' pick up points from the cruise port

There are 2 international cruise terminals at Shanghai.

1) Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal: Hua Cheng Road, Bao Shan District, Shanghai.

2) Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal: 500, Daming Road East, Hongkou District, Shanghai.

Which one will land?

Another one is Waigaoqiao International Cruise Termial that docks big cruise like Diamond Princess. Among the three terminals, only Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, located in north Bund, is close to city center with comparatively easy reach to tour bus that stops two spots on the Bund. The other two are quite far, therefore taking the cruise line bus first to city proper is good idea.

M....mm, the Waigaoqiao International Cruise Terminal also known as Hai Tong Pier. It just a temporary solution before Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal bought into service.

actually there are 3 besides what you mentioned:)

3 one is waigaoqiao cargo pier. since it is a commercial port, normally the port/ship will offer complimentary shuttle bus to the city point ( checked and found it will be shanghai waima silk museum )

Go to cruisecritic.com and find the Roll Call for your cruise. You can find out what other people are doing.

You should also contact your cruise line to see where they plan on berthing. This is always subject to change however.

We were the second ship to use the new Bao Shan terminal in March. We got special permission to be there because our itinerary had to change due to the earthquake in Japan. There was a free shuttle bus into downtown (the small park on the Bund).

We also noticed that the new terminal is a short bus or taxi from the Bao Shan subway stop. A few people on our ship went in that way rather than wait for the next shuttle.

Looks like I should be able to transfer from subway #3 to #8 (?) to get to pld town and the Bund. Can someone hep with directions?

Thanks!

OK I just checked it again and the metro stop is Baoyang Road. It is on Line 3 but much further north.

Here is a decent map, but be aware they are constantly adding whole subway lines, let alone stops. You will be able to get an up to date map when you get there.

I rang Princess Cruises and they told me it was Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal and that it was 15 mins to downtown.

That's very odd, From prior postings, there was low bridge that ships the size of Diamond Princess can't pass under to reach the International cruise terminal close to Shanghai. Previous Diamond cruisers said they had to dock at the Waigaoqiao International Terminal over an hour away because of that.

Different sized Princess ships dock in different places.

So says their website: "Dcking--Your Princess ship will dock in Shanghai. The distance from the pier to Shanghai depends on the size of the

vessel. Grand Class ships will dock approximately one

hour from Shanghai; smaller ships may be as close as

30 minutes."
