Trips outside Shanghai

We will be in China in June 2015 starting in Beijing. We are not interested in seeing Shanghai since we have already visited there. We are more interested in seeing Suzhou and Tongli. Our plan is to fly from Xian to Shanghai and go strait to Tongli, spend the most of the day there and then go to Suzhou for the night and most of the next day and then back to Shanghai to fly to Hong Kong. Are we planning on enough time in each village? Is there a better way to plan these two villages?

Depending on your flight schedules.

Hi,

We did a day trip from Shanghai to Suzhou and Tongli.

Our preference was Tongli, and if possible I would probably try and stay there. If we had our time over that is what we would do.

It is a more quaint town.

Sounds like enough time. Many people do Suzhou as a day trip from Shanghai. The first day will very much depend on your flight as drdw mentioned above. Take into account that domestic Chinese flights are always delayed. Maybe spend the night in Tongli instead, so if you get in late, you can still see it in the morning and are not rushing over to Suzhou.
