Travel time from SJO to Doka

Our plane arrives at 11 am at SJO. We are planning on hiring a driver to take us to Arenal but along the way would like to stop at Doka. Should I book the 1:30 or 2:30 tour? How far is Doka from airport? Also thought of Poas but think that by the time we get there the clouds

would have rolled in and we would not see a thing - do you agree?

We will be visiting at the beginning of August not sure if this makes a difference .

Doka is about a 20-30 minute drive from the airport depending on traffic. the 1:30pm tour should work. They also have a restaurant on site not expensive, you can also have lunch there. Poas is best to visit in the morning before 10am better chances to be able to see the crater.

Doka in August you do not need to book so get there when you get there. You are less likely to see anything at Poas at 2pm in August - most days if you are there by 8am, you will see the crater, fumaroles etc.

You have a driver so it won't matter so much, you can see the rim of Poas from near the airport so if it is covered don't go, if it is clear skip Doka. Now Poas is not exactly on the way to Arenal unless you go around the earthquake damaged side of Poas volcano. Some drivers don't like to do it as it is a bit narrow, but many of our guests have done it the last year or so without problems. Check with your driver on that.
