Rafting from Alajuela

Is there any company offering rafting trip on the Sarapiqui (or other rivers) from the Alajuela area? We'll have a group ranging up to 75 in age so we are looking for class 1 through 3 (but not a class 2-3 that is really all 3).

Distance wise this looks very doable but all the tours seem to start in Fortuna.

Don J: I don't see where anyone disagreed that rafting the Pacuare was the most exciting rafting river in Costa Rica. The discussion really kind of got started about the Sarapiqui River.

The Pacuare is definitely a good choice, with an assortment of providers able to put together a good trip, whether it's a day trip or overnight, but the OP asked about the Sarapiqui River and mentioned a 75-year-old participant who might not enjoy Class IV or V.

This is a kind of moot debate IMHO. In the years we have sent guests to VARIOUS rafting outfits - the same has always been true. If the river is too high for novice rafters they WILL cancel the trip (happens a few times a year during peak rainy (season). I do not think you need to be wary of this issue here. This does not mean a new outfit will not show up with yahhoo management but not our experience.

As someone mentions the Pacuare is not for everyone. It often runs a III or a IV and often people can be tossed from boats. That's what rafters come for sometimes.
