Where to eat in El Castillo?

Our trip is finally approaching! We leave in just a few days!

Does anyone know of where you can eat (we like cheap, generally), in El Castillo? I heard of some pizza guy that is there, but anything else?

Any good cheap eats either in La Fortuna or on the way from there to El Castillo? We do enjoy authentic cuisine, typically hate fixed tourist menus. Thanks so much!

Might ask where in El Castillo you are staying? Do you have a car rental? This is a very hilly area with poor roads...we were there last week. Pizza John is a small pizza shop located past the school another 2 km. It is very rustic and from the outside looks abandon...pizza is good and John changes the ice cream flavor daily.

Hi,

Sorry to jump on this thread but I have a similar question. We're planning to stay 5 nights in El Castillo in December and I'm concerned about dinner options. I've read that we shouldn't drive at night and that the El Castillo roads are terrible-- does that mean that we should not drive to/from La Fortuna in the evenings for dinner? If not, other than the pizza place, how many local options are there for dinner?

Thanks.

You can drive ...just common sense...the road is rocky and dark...but nothing out of this world!
