Don Rufino is actually one of the better spots for vegetarians. I know they have various soups, salads, and pastas that are vegetarian, as well as things like veggie lasagna, eggplant sandwiches, etc. They have an online menu if you want to explore it. They even mark the items that are vegetarian. Most places will have things like rice and beans, salads, plantains, etc.

Like volcanogirl mentioned, most restaurants offer vegetarian plates. The Lava Lounge has plenty of options for a vegetarian lunch.

La Choza de Laurel, Lava Lounge, Gecko Gourmet, La Cascada (Perla's),& Don Rufinos. One big clue is that "no carne" does not take care of it all when you're ordering, that literally just means no beef so you need to know how to say "no carne, no pollo, no pescado". :-) I've had vegetarian clients that ordered nachos without carne and it came smothered in chicken...funny. :-) The restaurants listed above have menus in English and they do offer "vegetarian platters"...just read them carefully. Enjoy!

If you want a vegetarian dish, you should say "vegetariano" (ve-heh-tah-riano). But the restaurants listed by Villa Hermosa are great and with menus in both English and Spanish, you should be fine.

Here's the link to Don Rufino's menu. Just click on each category, and you can see the options. The vegetarian options are highlighted by a little tomato icon.

If you have transport, definitely check out Rancho Margot - amazing farm-fresh meals from organic and chemical-free gardens prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Otherwise, in Fortuna Lava Lounge has some great vegetarian options!
