Volcano hike...suggestions

We are looking to do a hiking tour to see a volcano/waterfall/ wildlife however as my husband is not a fan of heights do not want to include zip line or canapy. Have been researching Miravalles and also Ricon de la vieja. We are staying at JW Marriott and wondering if anyone has done such a tour? And suggestions on which location is better? Any any tour company suggestions for something like this?

Thanks again for all the great tips!!

Couple of suggestions, http://www.volcanoadventuretour.com/ for Miravalles, seems like low impact, and there is a nice Poas/Doka plantation/Grecia and Sarchi tour close to SJ through Grayline https:/… as well as Irazu volcano https:/…

Hope this gives you some help with your vacation planning, and do come back and review your trip.

Jacamar is a good company with trips to both Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja: www.arenaltours.com/index.php…

Will second Roadadvisor's recommendation of Hacienda Guachipelin. They have EXCELLENT national park hikes and activities (and if the trails are open--a great guided hike to Rincon de la Veija crater). You can look at their web site and see if something fits with your desires...if not contact them directly and they may be able to customize a plan for you and your family. They have some excellent guides and I found them easy to work with when we visited. Happy memories..wish I was there now!!

Rincon de la vieja Volcano is the closest active volcano to the Guanacaste coastal area. The trail to the top is closed presently because of volcanic activity, but the other trails are open. Las Pailas trail is one of the most popular trails and there is plenty of volcanic activity to observe. The park opens Tuesday trough Sunday from 7am to 5:30 pm, but the admission closes at 3:30. The distance from Playa Panama is 55 km. Hire a naturalist guide so you can get the most out of the park. There are waterfalls and hot springs in the park as well as in the area that you can visit. As for wildlife, there is plenty inside the park, and adventure tours, there are many options around.
