What All-Inclusive Hotel should we stay at??

What All-Inclusive Hotel should we stay at?? Riu Guanacaste, Riu Palace Guanacaste, or The Flamingo Hotel.

We are planning on booking our trip to Costa Rica this week to travel Aug 21-28, 2013. Travelers are 2 adults and a 4 year old. We are looking for an all-inclusive resort that is family friendly and relaxing. Not sure where to stay. Any ideas?

Of the three, I would certainly recommend the Flamingo. There are LOTS of reasons not to stay at either RIU.

One advantage of the Flamingo Resort is that there is a small town within walking distance as well as several other villages and beaches, less than 3 miles apart. The Flamingo beach is much better as well. One of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica is Playa Conchal which is close to the Flamingo Resort.

Both the RIUs are quite isolated and have a man-made beach that is not nearly as pretty as the beaches in the Flamingo area. It's a HUGE complex with over 1,000 rooms so can get pretty crowded. Add to that the ongoing problems and poor environmental record, in my opinion, there's really no comparison.

The RIU has a pretty bad reputation here on this board, so I doubt that you get many positives for staying there. As Hattie said, Playa Flamingo and Playa Conchal are two of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica, With that in mind as well as you having a little one, I would suggest that you also look into the Westin at Playa Conchal. This is a very nice all inclusive, that if you shop around, you can get some pretty good discounts to stay. The food is pretty good here, the grounds are very well maintained and the rooms are very comfortable. We have stayed at the Flamingo and the Westin, and our choice iof the two is definitely the Westin.

Hilton Papagayo is a good option, and Flamingo Beach is very well located in one of the prettiest beaches in Guanacaste.

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is the closest active volcano in the area, just about 30 minutes from the airport. Lots of things to do , waterfalls, hot springs, lush green forest, volcanic activity, adventure ....... Set one day aside for a trip to this national park.
