Family Vacation

We our planning our large extended family vacation and have narrowed down to Costa Rica. We are looking at all inclusive options as the group ranges from 2-70 and is about 50 people. We are looking at the Flamingo Resort, the Rius, Hilton Papagayo, Barcelo and Villa Sol. Westin is out of the overall groups budget. Which resort will have a things for the kids to do and be close enough for those that want to go offsite to find things to do. A great beach would be really nice too.

The Barcelo Langosta or Villa Sol would be the best choices. Great places to stay and easy access to town(s) and activities. Villa Sol is would be the closest to most activities such as National Parks and other things. Barcelo Langosta is very close to Tamarindo where there is a lot to do, but it's further to National Parks, etc.

Just an FYI: I put together a "things to do" list for someone else - perhaps it will be helpful to you.

1. Do the One Day Adventure Pass at Guachipelin. www.guachipelin.com

2. Visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park for hiking, volcano, waterfalls, hot springs, mud pots, etc.

3. Go horseback riding, fishing or boating

4. Visit Santa Rosa National Park and see the old farmstead known as "La Casona" - now a museum - it figures prominently in Costa Rican history. There are several nearby trails to choose from and one longish trail ends at a deserted beach.

5. Take the boat trip through Palo Verde National Park. www.paloverdeboattours.com

6. Take the boat to Witch's Rock for surfing or just visiting a beautiful beach.

7. Visit the town of Guatil where you can see authentic Chorotega pottery being made.

8. Head to the Tenorio National Park for the hike to the Rio Celeste.

9. Go to Llanos del Cortes waterfall. Huge waterfall with small swimming area. There are often monkeys in the trees overhead.

10. Visit Las Pumas Wildlife Rescue Center in Canas where you can see all sorts of animals, including big cats.

11. Arrange a sailing trip with the Sea Bird out of Playas del Coco. Snorkeling or just a quiet sunset cruise.

12. Take a whitewater rafting trip on the Tenorio River or a float trip on the Corobici River. www.rinconcorobici.com

13. Take a whitewater rafting trip on the Cucaracho River riostropicales.com/index.php/…cucaracho-river

Just stay away from the RIU. You won't find many "fans" on this forum - they have been called "the most hated hotel in Costa Rica."

Not much to add to Hatties excellent reply, I do want to chime in to say research the RIU in this forum before making that your hotel. As Hattie mentioned the hotel has a bad rep, this is due to their environmental policies. Costa Rica at its essence is all about nature and sustainability. These are 2 things that were apparently lost with them and the damage they did can not be undone. Better to not support a company that has no regard for their surroundings IMO.

With a group that size you have huge negotiating power. Villa Sol also has Condovac condos which is nice so you don't have to be in a studio room the entire stay. You may also want to check out casa conde in playa panama. You would basically take over the place. It's right on the beach. Jay Villa Nube Nueve

Not sure of your dates but there's a brand new hotel opening in Playa Panama called El Mangrove.
