Things to do on your own

Planning trip for 10/19-25 which gives us 5 full days. Planning on renting car once we get to La Fortuna. Can we pay the entrance fee to park and do exploring on our own like water falls hot springs and hanging bridges? We plan on booking white water rafting and zip lines and going to animal refuge for tour and volunteering. Love taking pictures. We are 2 ladies 50 and 63 old in reasonably good health. What else can we do on our own without paying a whole lot.

all of the things you've mentioned are separate. the fortuna falls are one thing, the national park is another as are the hanging bridges, all different places and all paid separately. some are close together, like the national park and the hanging bridges and zipline.

sorry, just re-read your question (long day in the hot sun) and yes, you can do hanging bridges and waterfall hike on your own, without a guide.

I'd recommend the trails at the Arenal Observatory Lodge instead of the park. It's only $10 pp and the views are lovely. Mistico hanging bridges are good and it seems that you've already booked Proyecto ASIS. These are all good choices.

You are doing a good job on your own. Those activities are all ..."get there", park the car, pay admission fee, do it, and continue on. The suggestion to do Arenal Observatory Lodge trails is a good one. Nice grounds, restaurant on site,

Have not been to the rescue center. That said. I'd combine AOL grounds and Zipline (SkyTrek) since they are near each other on the same road. Combine hot springs and Mistico on another day.

La Fortuna waterfall and the rescue center another day.

Please repost on this thread to let us know how you did.

Have a great trip!
