Haggling at hotels

How likely is it to get a better price than what they post at hotels in June? Are there many vacancies that time of the year? Online I notice the prices aren't significantly lower for the green season than for the high season.

You could always email and ask if they offer a cash discount for the dates you want, or just a discount for green season. Sometimes they'll come down on the posted online price.

They usually post the deals online. As the previous post mentions, you could email and ask. You might find some smaller hotels will give you a cash discount, but IMO carrying enough cash around to pay for a vacation is not worth the risk to save a few dollars per day.

I agree with Mainiac on this one. Email or call the hotel and ask about booking direct and paying in cash. This works 90% of the time. Do not need to carry a bunch of cash down, just hit ATM's as needed.

It doesn't hurt to try! It depends a lot on the popularity of the hotel. There are a few hotels in the country that weathered the downturn over the recent years. They had no need to bargain or give discounts. The vast majority have not been so fortunate and many are willing to come down on the prices you see on the website.

We've found substantial savings by traveling during green season; the rates are usually a lot lower at the places we stay. We also check their websites for specials and e-mail and ask about specials before we book.

Email the hotels you want. It does not hurt to ask.
