Playa Hermosa + one other beach location within 2 hrs

My boyfriend and I are going to Costa Rica in Jan. Flying into Liberia and thought about spending 3 nights in Playa Hermosa (beach views, day trip to rincon) and 4 nights at another location.

Playa Hermosa - thoughts on La Finisterra? Are there restaurants and small shops within walking distance? Are there any places that have live music on beach?

One other location - We don't want to drive too far from PLaya Hermosa but want to:

- try surfing

- be located on beach & hear waves (or close to beach if all other criteria met)

- toes in the sand casual feeling without being the extremes - hostel or high end

- max $125

- walking distance to fun restaurants and bars - open air on sand with live music (recos???) - - not college party town

Thought about Samara but is the water clean ? Also thought about Playa Grande but are there things to do? Any other ideas? What about places to stay?

thanks!

Dear LB...

Check Tamarindo beach...it is close to Playa Hermosa...by monkey trail...about 1 hour and 25 minutes...by regular way maybe 1 hour and 45 minutes!

Minutes more minutes less...but Tamarindo is waiting for you guys...it is a fun place to be!

I love La Finisterra in Playa Hermosa....super cute and charming small hotel, I think they only have 10 rooms? Maybe not even that many. Lovely views and they have their own restaurant too.....the chef is an artist!!

You can walk down the steep hill to the beach and other restaurants in the area...few shops, couple bars...not sure about live music on the beach. You are more likely to find that in the next beach over, Playas del Coco. (about a 5-10 minute drive from Hermosa.)

Surfing beaches under an hour away are Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Avellanas, Witches Rock or Ollie's Point (if you go by boat.)

One of the most unique beaches is Playa Conchal....good for snorkeling and lounging around, pick through the bazillions of shells on the beach.

Playa Hermosa is a quieter place to sleep, but in either Coco or Tamarindo you can find places away from the party to relax.

Here in Coco you have so many choices from renting a condo, a hotel room, a villa, or even a villa fully stocked with chef, cleaning crew and bar tender.

I personally like to go up away from the noise to places like this;

or here; http://www.ranchoarmadillo.com/

This place is right ON the beach in Coco; http://www.cafedeplaya.com/suites.html

Hope some of this helps!

Forgot to mention my neighbors B&B;

http://www.villadelsol.com/

A friend of mine just stayed there and she loved it. Quiet, close enough to town to walk to, great breakfasts in the morning, walk across the street to the beach........

Everything Seabird said is right on.

I stayed at Villadelsol in April and loved it. I prefer Coco over Hermosa because there is more things to do. Hermosa is quieter. It just depends on what you prefer.
