Departure Tax: Can I Pay it in Samara?

Happy Friday!

Would I be able to pay our Departure Tax in the Bank in Samara?

I know its $28 PP and we need our Passports..

Anything else I should know? (do they give receipt, a paper as proof?)

Thanks!!

Not sure if you can pay for it at a bank or not, but it has never taken me more than 10 minutes at the airport. Most bank visits take a half hour+. Hopefully someone else knows about this.

If you are worried about not having enough time on your departure day, you could always do it at the airport when you arrive.

Thanks explorinCA, but I arrive by bus from Nicaragua, so I will not have a chance to be at the airport until my departure... and my flight leaves a 11:25am... I plan to leave samara around 6am... but

I would like to have it "Paid" just in case we are running late..

Thanks,

hopefully someone will know

I actually don't know - but I would assume that you can pay it at the bank. The reason that I don't know is simply that paying your departure tax literally takes less than a minute, especially if you are flying out of LIR (I seem to remember you mentioning that). Thus, I've never seen the need to pay beforehand - I certainly didn't want to lose my receipt somewhere along the way, either.

You can certainly try to pay at the bank, but if you can't there is no reason to be upset about it.

The departure tax desk is immediately to your left as you walk in the main doors at Liberia. Seriously don't worry - it only takes 5 minutes or less.

One tip... If there are two of you. One stand in line to pay departure tax (with both passports) and other stand in line for airline.

Not worried...just wondering! So, to pay at the airport, you don't all physically need to be there....just the passports?

Those are good tips when travelling as a family!!

You got it - only one person needs to take all the passports to pay the departure tax. Everybody else can get in line for check-in.

You can buy your departure tax at a Banco de Costa Rica, there apears to be on in Samara. You will need both passports and $28.

As others have said it takes a few minutes at the airport I would personaly not spend time lining up at a bank to pay it. But in answer to your question, yes you can. Also some hotels sell the exit tax but charge a few dolllars more, the only advantage being is that usualy you can pay these with your credit card on the hotel bill.

I have always purchased at the airport.
