Security in Samara and Nosara area

There have been quite a few older forums talking about house break ins in Samara & Nosara area but nothing newer. We are thinking of renting a villa for a week in this area - the villa is up above one of the bays and not on the beach. How is the security these days? The villa has lots of open air spaces. Would appreciate some insight.

Thanks

Please read this thread about the Nosara area: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g656474-i12862-k43…

Frankly, it's not a place where I would rent a villa or house at this point in time.

Samara is another thing entirely and has not experienced the problems that have plagued Nosara.

The problem is currently confined to Nosara. Samara has not experienced a rash of break-ins. The last spat occurred roughly seven years ago but the responsible gang from Liberia was apprehended by police. In addition, there was a raid just a few months ago that tremendously curbed the activity of drug dealers in the area.

The homes in the hills have, traditionally, been spared - generally because access is not as easy as it is in town. Some villas are shielded from the road, others are behind fences and can only be reached through a guarded gate.

Which villa are you thinking about?

La Paila is actually in Playa Carrillo, not Playa Samara.

That said, break-ins over in Carrillo tend to be even less frequent than in Samara. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about, particularly since caretakers live on the premises. Just be aware that the selection of restaurants and stores in the area is limited. You'll find that Samara has a bit more going on. However, the drive is quick and easy - something I used to do on a bicycle every day - and nothing to concern yourself with, either.

In turn, you get easy access to a gorgeous beach that's nicer than Samara while you can also easily explore the outcropping that separates Playa Carrillo from Playa Camaronal - with various tide pools, sea stacks, etc.
