For four people, a rental car would make more sense. This way, you can also do some exploring of the area on your own.

You can plan day trips to some of these National Parks: Rincon de la Vieja, Miravalles, Tenorio and Palo Verde. www.costarica-nationalparks.com

Some tour operators include www.papagayovargas.com and www.malekutours.com among others.

Thanks for the info

We are debating car rental vs service like xplore for airport service

It is nice to have someone who knows the area pick you up

Wife and daughter will stay at hotel and shop in tamarindo at night via hotel shuttle

Son and i like adventure tours etc and since most pick you no need for a rental car

Some of the insurance and crazy driver stories are scaring us

Not sure best way to go rental or ???

Maybe good idea is to take a shuttle to JW from LIR...somebody like Eco Trans...and then have a car for a couple days to explore around...they will deliver the car for you at the hotel...in some cases is a lot better to have a car...for example...some tour companies will charge around $ 85.00 per person for Palo Verde Tour...great tour to see some wild life and nice area to explore...if you drive there you can do it for about $ 40.00 the same tour...

Also you can drive to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano...nice area to hike and explore around...maybe chaeck Hacienda Guachipelin...nice 100% costarican hotel...!

Great suggestions

I think avis rents cars right at jw marriott

As long as daily price doesnt wipe out the savings vs weekly rate

Any other day adventures you would suggest.?

Fish snorkel jungle atv zip line are our favorite activities

it depends if you want to drive on your own, is less expensive and more flexible, but if you want to go relaxed, hire a shuttle, latter they can arrange tours for you also,

car rentals, look for adobe rent a car http://www.adobecar.com/

shuttles in the area

hi is good to have a car to get around, but I recommend for activities such as tours, find someone to give you some good travel packages to the area,

if you go with someone, it's better because you have to drive and thus enjoy more of the area and will always have a few questions and a guide for the area is easier to get answers

www.pininosadventures.com

they are in the area and 100% Costa Ricans

I hope you have luck and happy holidays

We use Xplore every time we visit. They're great to work with. I don't like having to drive myself and any tours you do, they handle the transport if you book through them.

You're going to love the hotel. We've been twice and are booked for a third trip this June. If you want any tips on the hotel itself, just let me know.

morty - why not write something here about your experiences? I am sure we would all like to know - and it would be helpful to to others. Also -- for any questions, I hope they will just post here instead of email because that way, everyone gets to read and learn.
