How far away is whalewatching from Tamarindo?

Far.... They tend to be down near Drakes Bay in the southern part of the Pacific and further south. I don't know of any whales that far north, but maybe someone in the area can chime in a bit more on that.

We went out last week around Corcovado and even radio other boats around...and nobody had any good news...what we saw were tons of great big turtles...and dolphins!

Costa Ballena "Whale Coast" - Dominical, Uvita & Ojochal area by Marino Ballena National Marine Park in the Southern Pacific is about 8 hours by car. Or you can fly to Palmar Sur or Quepos by SANSA or Nature Air and then drive about 1 hour. Other option is Drake bay best way is to fly from Tamarindo as it is about an 11 hour drive.

You can see dolphins around Tamarindoand I have seen whales around Papagayo.
