One of my favorite restaurants in the Caribe Sur is Miss Edith in Cahuita, lots of great seafood expertly prepared. Maxi's in Manzanilo is great, been there forever, and the view is also priceless. Jungle Love in Playa Chiquita makes a Tokyo Tuna that is ridiculous good. Tamara in Puerto Viejo has lots of great seafood on the menu, and many of the small local places like Joanna's in Cocles and Lidia's place serve great Red Snapper in Carebbean sauce. The rondon(seafood stew) at Selvin's on Friday is not to be missed.

In my opinion Sobre Las Olas at Pepe's beach in Cahuita is the best seafood restaurant in the area. It is a short walk north from town. Fisherman's Spaghetti dinner is great as is the fish and chips.

My favorite place to hang in Puerto Viejo is Koki Beach. Not really a seafood place... but great if you want to watch all the comings and going in town and be overlooking the beach at the same time.

Maxi's in Manzanillo just outside of Puerto Viejo. They have the BEST whole fried red snapper topped with a tropical sweet onion chutney and served with coconut rice and fried plantains! You're going to love it!

On Saturday nights you can get some amazing Rondon (a seafood soup made with coconut milk) in Puerto Viejo. A family sells it out of their house from about 2pm - 7pm... go early and ask a local for directions! It's just off the main drag and well worth the visit!

Happy Eating!

We were in Cahuita in March 2010 - I agree with the post on Sobre das Olas - we had a fantastic seafood dinner right on the beach. Delicious. Also in Cahuita is Cha Cha Cha - wonderful chef, fine food. Maxi's is a one of a kind experience -great location, beautiful beach. It's probably at least 1 hour south of Cahuita. The local bus is a great option, but the last bus leaves Manzanillo around 5PM, I think...
