No. The only Dry area is the Canton of Cartago which is essentially the city and surrounding area. It does not mean the entire Provence will be dry. The Two largest Cantons (Paraiso and Turrialba) and the rest of the country will allow alcohol sales. Having said that some stores may be closed for the holiday.

During the week, yes, but I thought they prohibit on Good Friday and Easter Sunday... Either way, we thought ahead. We're arriving on Good Friday and the caretaker of our rental was nice enough to buy us some wine and beer ahead of time.

In the past, the prohibition has been Thursday and Good Friday and no other days of the week, including Easter Sunday. So it will be "business and usual."

Nice of the caretaker to be so thoughtful for you.

Yes, very thoughtful. The first two nights we'll be staying in Paraiso. We are so looking forward to getting away and just soaking up the beauty and the lovely culture in Costa Rica.

JustUs796 , what time are you arriving on Good Friday? I ask because if you get to Paraiso my noon or shortly thereafter you are in for an amazing cultural immersion. You will be whitens to a recreation of the passion of Christ. This procession is huge with hundreds of actors and marching bands portraying Roman Soldiers and exhibits of each stage of the procession. In addition there will be vendors selling “Copo” not sure exactly how to describe it but it is ice cream, powdered milk, condensed milk and cola syrup over shaved ice. You have to try one.

Snowcone, I think CanaTico. The Easter processions are a real treat and well worth going to see.
