Unfortunately, that map is misleading. From my experience working with turtles, the Hawksbills nest around the same time as the green turtles, from June to October. There's no significant nesting activity in February, just a few anomalous turtles that decided to go against the grain.

But don't let that dampen your spirits! Tortuguero's canal system in the National Park is AMAZING. You can see 3 species of monkeys, 3- and 2-toed sloths, river otters, hundreds of species of birds including toucans and many species of parrots, river turtles, iguanas, Jesus-Christ lizards, red-eyed and poison dart frogs, etc., etc., etc.... It's not known as Costa Rica's Amazon for nothing!

I agree with wildginger. Tortuguero has a reknown reputation for the arrival of the turtles, specially the green sea turtles...but there is a great array of widlife present in this little paradise of the country. Getting here is to me already an adventure worth seeing. Imagine a place without traffic, without roads, cars honking... and just from there imagine how different this place is from the rest of the country.

You will truly enjoy the great wildlife present here, dont miss it!
