Jaco - Nightlife, surfing and tips?

Hi all,

Many active posters in this forum so I thought I'd post here.

A group of 12 guys are coming to Jaco next week for our friend's bachelor party.

Which clubs should we go to? Which clubs should we avoid?

Some of us are thinking of getting surfing lessons. Any instructors or schools that you would recommend?

And finally, any general tips for a bunch of gringos? Many thanks.

You'll have a great time in Jaco and find a lot to do there. Contact the guys at Jaco VIP as they know the whole Jaco scene better than most and I am sure they'll help you out with everything. www.jacovip.com

There is some really good surfing in Jaco and plenty to do at night time. Also take a look here on Trip Advisor in the left column and click on restaurants and you'll find some really good dining suggestions. Have fun on your trip.

You should have a good time. Clubs to check out will be Le Loft and Monkey Bar. If you are in the area on a Wednesday night, head out to the Backyard for ladies night. Some restaurants to check out in no particular order are Hotel Poseidon, Lemon Zest, Los Amigos and Wishbone. Be sure when you leave the clubs at night to take a taxi. Just like San Jose, there are a lot of unsavory characters on the streets late at night and it is really recommended not to walk at late hours.

Jako gives good advice. I prefer Monkey Bar over Le Loft but those are the main spots late night in Jaco. The Backyard on Wed. nights is lots of fun. The Backyard is in Playa Hermosa, just south of Jaco. Also Saturday afternoons at The Backyard there is a surf contest then after live music. This is a good pre nightlife thing to do on Saturdays. Nightlife in Jaco starts late like it does here in the States. Do extra careful late at night, take a taxi. Since you have a big group you should get a private driver for sure. Are you stayinng at a hotel or a condo? There are plenty of surf options. We stay in the south end of Jaco and have always like using Cartoon. If you are closer in town then Jaco Surf School is right in the middle of town on the beach.

Might not be what you are looking for on a bachelor party or if time is limited, but there is also a blues night on the third floor of Canciones del Mar in the new bar on Saturday nights. For surf lessons, I highly recommend Jaco Surf Club, across the street from Hotel Poseidon. Mauricio and Dave do exceptional lessons there. Not just a couple of pushes and then telling you to paddle, paddle, paddle. They do a thorough lesson. Time on the beach learning fundamentals and then a lot of attention and correction in the water. Another spot I had forgotten. Malecon on the beach, a couple of doors down from the police station for sunset. This is where Ganesh used to be. After a few gringo screwups in that location, the family who has owned the property for years went back to the little local bar it used to be.

Beatles, Monkey and the Jungle are enclosed bars. You might prefer beach front and open air bars like Bubbas. They have great service and good fish tacos and 2 surf schools in front. There is also Claritas beach bar and grill, they boast of fun waitresses and ice cold beers. . But dont worry, Jaco is small you will be able to visit all these places :o)

You can pick up duty free liquor at SJO at a good value. There are a few shops on the arrivals level and a smaller shop at baggage claim. Might be nice to have a few tragos prior to the clubs. Cheers!
