Fresh Shrimp, Lobster and Restaurant Recommendation

Is there a fish market, or boats to buy fresh shrimp and/or lobster from near Jaco? Also, can anyone recommend a restaurant that would have an awesome view for an anniversary? Thank you!

First the awesome view, IMO Treetop Dining is what you are after, this is by reservation only and expensive, but well worth it. I tried to find the website, but could not, someone will need to chime in on that.

Tsunami Sushi is a great place if you dig Sushi. I could eat every day of my life and not tire of it.

There is a fish market up the road outside of Jaco and before you hit Hreadurra. Great prices, fresh off the boat, cant beat it. The seafood soup there is amazing.

Cheers

Awesome view = Villas Caletas north of Jaco. Fantastic views of the coast and perfect for an anniversary! A few ideas for the fish market ... are you traveling out of SJO thru the Tarcoles area? There is a fish cooperative just south of the bridge (look for signs, turn right, follow to end). You can check there to see if they have fresh shrimp and lobsters avail. Within Jaco, I enjoy the Bertil Pescaderia (southern end of Jaco/across from the gym.) I purchased a great piece of mahi last week (fresh!) but noticed the sign indicated they had shrimp and lobsters at the time also. Martec (north end of Jaco near Chuck's WOW) has great fish too but I've not seen the lobster there (yet). Their shrimp is a bit pricey for me. No need to purchase fish in the grocery here ... very $$ and the other options IMO are much better! Lisa

Found the website - http://www.adventurediningcr.com/

That fish coop Lisa mentioned above is the same one I am thinking about, it has a name but escapes me... having one of those days...

It is just past the old Steve and Lisas restaurant and almost across the street for the NEW Steve & Lisa's restaurant. No affiliation with LisaPuraVida FYI

Cheers

@inca: the restaurant is Fiesta del Mariscos (maybe?) Great seafood soup, probably one of the best pescado entero I've had here!

I think you are right Lisa, the name sounds correct. Best Seafood soup in the country as far as I know, never come across better.

Next time you guys got he Caribe Sur, try the seafood soup at Tamara in Puerto Viejo, or the Rondon at Selvin's in Punta Uva. Lets see who has got the best!

I'll do it cubanon! Just to clarify my confusing post, the fish co-op just south of the Tarcoles bridge is a small fishmonger. And then we have the Fiesta del Mariscos (restaurant). Two different places (all great fish). Also, great seafood soup at Isaga (typica CR) in Jaco Beach also. And you're correct Inca, I'm no relation to Steve and Lisa's : )

" Fiesta de mariscos " the open are tico style seafood restaurant near tarcoles does have some pretty good seafood soup, their sopa Viagra-(milk based seafood soup) is there best one, but I have had better in a few places. Paso del Tigre nin Jaco, when it was open made a better sopa mariscos en leche for less than half the price.

I would try adventure dining for a romantic setting and full meal with a view. I would absolutely avoid Villa Caletas for anything but watching the sunset and appetizers. I have tried Villa Calletas several times and will never eat a full meal in their restaurant ever again. last time I did, I sent 2 plates of foul tasting seafood back and never got an edible plate of food. and it still cost me around $200 for 2 people. I am a boat captain and know what fresh fish is and the stuff they were serving was not, regardless if they claim to have a french master chef or not.

Try Lemon zest in Jaco for some great gourmet seafood meals. best restaurant in Jaco hands down.awesome food great service, good atmosphere but doesn't have the mountain top view you are looking for for the really romantic night

If you really want a great deal on shrimp, and are doing any fishing, keep an eye out for shrimp boats, especially in the gulf of Nicoya, between Los Suenos, Jaco and Tambor, isla tortuga. you can often pull up and trade the shrimpers beer , cigarettes or a little cash for a bucket of shrimp right off the boat.

also try Hicaco restaraunt on the beach in Jaco. It has a wends night Lobster festival- all you can eat and drink- lots of good food dishes to choose from, beef, chicken, seafood, salads, desserts, and of course all you can eat Lobster.

food is very good, and very nice atmosphere. open air place, right on the beach, ocean breeze, moon and stars, sounds of waves crashing, waiters wear tux shirts and bow ties, candles, white linen tablecloths etc. the place is done very elegantly for a Jaco/Tico Seafood restaurant. menu is more developed than just traditional tico seafood.

ask a taxi to show you where it is, it is on a side street going to the beach off the main strip, a couple hundred yards past the center of Jaco to the south. you probably will not walk past it while walking around .there is a sign on the main strip showing you which road. i think Pancho Villas is on the corner
