Recommendations for eating/drinking/music in MA/Quepos

We are going to MA for a week in April 2008. Trying to pull together a list of spots that are recommended. We are a group of active 40 somethings w/ our older children coming with us.

We already got the advice to contact Juan for our tours, so now we need to find out the places for dinner and fun. What were/are your favorites?

Thanks!

Hi MVP,

There are lots of posts here about eating and entertainment in the MA area. (Many of them are mine - but there are others.)

Start at this thread

http://tinyurl.com/2xjsag

Our website has pages devoted to both area restaurants - including suggestions from some of our friends who visit the area every year - and some of the entertainment we enjoy.

http://mycondocostarica.com/restaurants.htm

Gato Negro (Fuzzy and Leo on Mondays for jazz) Bambu Jam, Dos Locos are the ones we go to most. But there are other places like Juan Toucan's near the beach, El Avion etc.

Enjoy

You normally dont need to make reservation for dinner in M.A. You can call them to reserve a view table if is the case.

MVP33, Hi! One of the best meals that I had In MA was at Karola's. The seafood was very fresh. The coconut margaritas were AMAZING!!! I was not all that impressed with the food at La Mariposa or Bamboo Jam. The views at La Mariposa are beautiful...if you eat there during the day. At night we couldn't see very much. The service was good, but the food was just okay. Bamboo Jam had great, live music, but the service was very poor and the food was even worse. Best of Luck!!!

Just returned from MA yesterday. Best restaurant we ate at, HANDS DOWN, was Kapi Kapi. Only open about 6 months, lovely sophisticated setting, casual, Asian fusion influence, phenomenal food (I live in NY City area, and the food was as good as the best I've eaten here.) Typical entry was $17 US. Might be best if the adults are going out alone for a special meal.

La Cantina would be great fun for whole group-live music, very good food, great drinks. My wife had a "monkey buisness" and thinks it was the best sweet drink she's ever had.

Cami,

When were you in the MA area? I don't think that Karola's is open anymore. (though I could be mistaken) Also in the last while the restaurant at Bambu Jam is under different management - so the food may be different. But as you say - at least for us going there is for the entertainment. I have eaten dinner there, But usually we just go for a drink.

Karolas is definately no longer open anymore. It has become part of the Los Altos construction site.

Me personally...La Cantina all the way. The steaks are top notch.

I am sorry to hear that Karola's is closed. It has been about 2 years since I have been there. Thanks for the info. We also had an oppurtunity to eat at Gaia. It was very expensive for Costa Rica, but very special!
