Hotel advice needed

Hi everyone. For next spring we are planning a trip and looking at a beachside place to call home.

We are mid-40's, active, HUGE nature lovers, explorers and LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach. Snorkeling especially. A view of the ocean would be great

So having a bit of a time trying to decide where to stay. We have looked at Buena Vista Luxury Villas and the Falls Resort. We like really nice, but not over the top expensive. I can't seem to find any cool little upscale bungalows directly in the sand on the beach. These hotels are both a hike away from the beach.

Anybody have any ideas out there?

Thanks so much,

Surf:)

Well the Falls is not going to have the ocean view you speak of, so that might be a deciding factor there. The Buena Vista / Tulemar is a good option if it fits in your budget. So you know, most all hotels and properties are located on the hills overlooking the ocean in this area. Some of the only hotels almost right on the beach are Hotel Verde Mar and Karahe. Both pretty basic hotels, but they may work well for your needs. Enjoy!

Hello fellow Nova Scotian! We spent 2 weeks this past February touring around Costa Rica. In regards to beach venues, we spent a few days at Manual Antonio at Villa Mot Mot in Tulemar and found it to be a great spot with nice views and private beach on-site. We also spent a few days at The Palms at Playa Flamingo. We enjoyed this facility even more than Tulemar. Very luxurious, high level of finishes and located DIRECTLY on the white sand beach. We sourced both of these lodgings from VRBO and were very happy with transactions. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any info.

Buena Vista Villas and Casas you can never go wrong them...such a lovely place...not cheap...but a great location...

The Falls...they are renovating the place...but of course is not Buena Vista...and they do not offer any ocean view...

Arenas del Mar is another good choice by the beach...

Budget and affordable...La Posada Inn...Inn On the Park...Cabinas Hotel Espadillas...Cabinas Hotel El Bosque...all of them by the National Park entrance...just minutes from the public beach...

If you're not absolutely hooked on Manuel Antonio 2 other options to consider would be:

1. Ylang Ylang Beach Resort with individual bungalows in Montezuma. Right on the beach, monkeys right outside our deck every day and isolated from town a 10 minute walk down the beach. Beautiful pool and good food. No snorkeling off the beach but you can take a daytrip to Isla Tortuga for snorkeling. Couple of nearly national parks to visit for wildlife.

2. On the Caribbean coast check out lodgings in Punta Uva just south of Puerto Viejo. Our favorite were rental houses at Casa Viva right on the beach. Also good choices but less upscale are Pachamama and Korrigan Lodge. Good snorekling and a gorgeous beach at Punta Uva as well as just down the road at Manzanillo. Sloths howler monkeys and incredible birding in this area with great rainforest hikes and a fraction of the tourists you'll find at Manuel Antonio.
