Best beach for families?

I have read that the water in some areas can be rough and have a dangerous rip current. Could someone please recommend some "safe" beaches that are not over crowded. Traveling in the first week of July. Thank you!

To be safe, assume that all beaches have rip tides in Costa Rica until you ask the locals and where you are staying, usually the beach inside the national park is safe from rip tides.

Most all the beaches around Manuel Antonio/Quepos will be fine as long as you are aware that rip tides can come up at any time. In our area, you will usually see a brown churned sand stain begin to form which gives you time to move down the beach or come out of the water. Those that get trapped are usually those that were not aware. Enjoy!
