Buy the Frommers guide for Costa Rica 2005. It sounds like the MA/Quepos area has a good mix of everything. There definately IS nightlife both in Quepos and the MA area (only about 4 miles apart), even right on the Beach. We're going in May and made the decision to stay in this area because it provides everything we want - nightlife, jungle, mountains, beach, waterfalls, great activities and tours, etc... The other good thing is that you generally don't need to rent a car for the entre time if you stay in this area. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. This assumes you fly into Quepos.

One of the great things about Manuel Antonio is that, while it's tourist focused, most of the tourists are there for the nature, the beach and the park. While there are places to party - Arco Iris in Quepos is open late; Mar y Sombra on the MA beach has a disco on the weekends - it is very tame by North American standards. Apparently Jaco is much more of a party town.

MarYSombra for late night music and dancing in M.Antonio. In Quepos, try Arco disco. It really starts to crank up about midnight. On Tues and Thurs, El Banco Bar in Quepos has ladies night, drink specials, good music. Dos Locos in Quepos has live music on Wed. and Friday. Ask around to find out where Robbie with Live Wire is playing, it's always a good time. Bambu Jam has live music on Fri. and Saturday. This is not South Beach or Cancun but you should be able to find a bit of nightlife!
