The town is called Santa Elena.

I had only two meals there, but one was very good - mariscos at the Tree House Restaurant. It was white squid, clams, mussels and roasted tuna, garnished with green salad, capers, tomato, hard boiled egg, olives and pickles. $8.95 including French fries.

Restaurant Miravalle (actually in Santa Elena)has excellent food at great prices. Also a good place to get information from other travellers about the days wildlife spotting in the reserves.

The Treehouse is THE most touristy place to eat in Santa Elena. The food is just okay but there are always people there, so you're not eating alone. It's a good place to relax with a beer. One night while we were there for beers, 2 couples at another table ordered chocolate fondue which came with lots of fruit and other stuff for dipping. Kinda fun.

We enjoyed Stella's Bakery which is perfect for breakfast or lunch. Wonderful pastries, pies, cinnamon rolls, brownies, quiche, sandwiches, shakes (try the watermelon shake). Stella's is close to Monteverde Cloud Forest.

We loved Morphos in Santa Elena and Flor de Vida in Cerro Plano for traditional Costa Rican food. Cerro Plano is between Santa Elena and the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Most of the better restaurants are in Cerro Plano.

Sofia's is a very nice more-upscale restaurant in Cerro Plano with very interesting and creative Nuevo Latino menu items and great cocktails.

De Lucia, close to the Butterfly Garden, was also very good - with a variety of food including typical Costa Rican food, steaks, and vegetarian lasagna. They have a large Chilean wine selection.
