animals/indians/whales- a lot of question from a first timer

Hi everybody,

We will visit Costa Rica next February for the first time. One destination will be the area around Corcovado National Park.

I have three main questions:

1) We want to see a lot of different animals. What would recommend? What should we do and of course where?

2) I want to meet the local Indians. I believe that are the Guaym, or? What is the best way to visit them?

3) What is the best way to see the beautiful whales in that area? Book a day trip?

We plan to stay around 5 days around that area.

We are looking for a lodge and organise the single “day trips” to our three points. Can you recommend some?

Thanks a lot….

Hi sportie, five days in february are just perfect to see wild animals, especially whales because will be the time when they arrive at the Marino Ballena National Park! I can highly recommend to look for a place to stay in or around Uvita (that is where the beach forms an amazing whale tale at low tide and where you would start your tour to Cano Island for snorkeling or diving or for whale watching in the bay of the national park) and from there you also have one or two day-trips to Corcovado park and to Sierpe for mangrove and wetland tours, birding (!). Uvita has more beautiful beaches, either for swimming or surf (15 min drive to Dominical and a few beaches on the road) and many good hotels, lodges and restaurants (15 min drive to Ojochal) around. There are waterfall hikes, canopy, rappelling, horseback riding, canyoning, kajaking, surf or wake board lesson, jungle tours by night … opportunities. You wouldn’t even need a car for the five days because you can everything have organized. Just tell the nice people from the agency that sits there in an office in the shape of a whale what category of hotel you search for and they can organize your transfers, accommodation, day trips, whale tours and every adventure you could imagine. Of course, also one or two day-trips to Indian villages, either the Borucan tribe or the people from Curre or the Terraba Indian. They do one or two day-trips.
